Blogging is The Latest Home Business Trend

My home office

Work at home moms are getting online and blogging their way into home successful home businesses. Blogs are here to stay, and many Wahms are taking advantage of the trend. Making money with blogs is a popular choice for many work at home moms. Blogs are quite eary to set up, and relatively easy to update. This is especially true when you compare blogs to other types of websites. Within just a few minutes, you can set up a professional looking blog for free and start your Wahm blogging business.

A web blog is an easy to update web site that looks sort of like a journal. Entries are made at a minimum of each week, and the newest entries appear at the top. Entries are normally short articles of 200 to 500 words. Readers visit the blog or read the new blog entries through a blog reading program. Readers can also comment on entries and provide links between their own blogs and your blog.

With blogs, the opportunities are wide open. Choosing a blog topic is as easy as looking at your own life for inspiration. There are blogs about everything from celebrity news to bathroom cleaning tips. Before you start a blog, do some research on the Internet to see if people are interested in your possible blog topic. Your topic doesn’t have to be popular, but it does have to have a dedicated group of people who are interested in the topic.

When you pick a topic, make sure to stay within a fairly small “niche.” The expression niche is used to describe a group of people who have a comparable interest. There are large niches – like working at home – and small niches – like tips for training your cat to sit on the toilet. Try to find a happy medium between a popular topic and a niche interest so your blog has plenty of readers. Some topics, like working at home or parenting, are too broad and have too much competition for readers.

You can set up your blog through a free blogging platform, like www.blogger.com or www.wordpress.com. There are also a half dozen others to choose from. The blogging platform will walk you through making your first entry into your blog.

After you’ve made a few entries into your blog, its time to get paid to blog. This means you’ll be creating specific changes to your weblog in order to make money. One of the most popular ways to gain income from a blog is by using a contextual advertising program, like Google Adsense or Chitika. Contextual advertising pays you for each time a reader clicks on one of the advertising links on your page. The advertising program will scan your blog entries for keywords, and then place advertising on your page that relates to your page content.

For example, if you have a weblog on children’s television and write an article regarding Sesame Street, the ads appearing next to that article will have to do with that program. They might be links to shopping for Sesame Street items, or an ad for vintage Sesame Street collectables selling on ebay.

One thing to take note with contextual advertising is that you need not have to worry about placing the ads yourself each day. Once you enter the code on your blog, the program will automatically refresh the advertising when you make a new post. You will be paid several cents for each click. It doesn’t seem like a lot per click, but it sure does add up quickly.

Contextual advertising is just one way of making money with blogs. You can also make merchandise recommendations and suggest information products (e-books) to your readers. Each time someone buys a product you recommend, you will get a commission. Many bloggers find that making gentle product recommendations throughout their blogs are a way to garner extra income.

Finally, some companies will pay bloggers to create posts that suggest certain products or services. These companies pay a few dollars per post, and are fairly easy to use.The only obstacle is that you’ll have advertising posts throughout your blog content. However, many bloggers have found a way around this by putting “And now a word from our sponsors” at the beginning of each of their required advertising posts. Doing this will help any advertizing appear to be more natural.

Todays budding blogger has a wide range of blogging platforms to choose from. Squidoo, LiveJournal, Wordpress, Blogspot and many others all seem to boast similar features at face value.

It can therefore be a daunting task to decide which of the available blogging platforms will best meet your blogging needs. There is a market leader though – Wordpress. This is the “blog of choice” for most professional bloggers.

Wordpress, like the majority of other blogging platforms, is free to use. It stands out from it’s competitors for other reasons, such as a higher storage allowance (a quite huge 3 gigs) Additionally, unlike most other blogging platforms, Wordpress has the option of allowing you to install it on your own personal website. Should you install Wordpress on your own domain, which isn’t necessary but is recommended, you’ll have complete control over it and you are given all the bandwidth your internet hosting plan allows. That already generous 3 gig limit then become limitless!

While most blogging platforms allow for only the hosting of image files, Wordpress offers another another benefit in that as well as hosting images, you can also host a variety of files including PowerPoint presentations, Word documents, Open Office files, and PDFs.

The open source nature of Wordpress is a further reason for its popularity as a blogging platform. This gives bloggers a great amount of flexibility. Wordpress has become a favorite among many bloggers for this reason alone. Appearance and widgets can be customized completely, making it possible for you to recreate the exact impression of your blog that you’ve formed in your head.

Lets review the benefits of Wordpress over other blogging platforms. We see that we have the option to house the blog on our own sever. We have the function to host a wide range of file types, and the the limitless flexibility afforded by its open source nature. Now is the time for you non Wordpress users to follow the example of professional bloggers!

Discover How Twitter Is Expanding Businesses

Twitter Bar 1
Image via Wikipedia

It would not take a genius to guess you know what Twitter is. Heck I have friends that don’t even use the net much and they know what Twitter is.

While the state of the economy is, at last, showing signs of recovering; driving new business and retaining customers continues to be a battle. Subsequently, marketers are working overtime with a host of strategies. Key amongst these, Twitter is winning a lot of new business

If, by chance, you aren’t familiar with Twitter, you can easily locate a quick introduction to Twitter online.

Of course, other platforms in the field are useful; but Twitter is the one with the edge.

While other platforms offer more applications, this is their downfall. the beauty of Twitter is in its ease of use; for readers and posters alike. Other than changing a few settings once creating your account, and the occasional background change; you can do everything from your tweet entry box.

Whether you wish to transmit to the world, to one particular follower, or simply urge somebody to post something; it can all be done from the tweet box. What to send a general message? Well then you just type and send. What to send a message to someone in particular, but the world to see? Well then you just type @ before the user name, type away and send.

Just as easy; is developing your network of followers. With profiles easy to check and a host of ways to join in; significant numbers can be yours within days. Relevant, pithy and informative postings taken for granted of course.  Many find that using a personalized background for Twitter helps attract followers, because it distinguishes you from other users.

Because of this ease of attraction, it is unlikely that many businesses would argue against its use. Whilst many businesses may benefit from membership more than others; that is not a reason for not being twitted up and getting your musings out there.

Whatever your missio0n; whether to generate footfall to a new hotel, or win more writing contracts; Twitter is the choice of the present.

It would not be too risky of me to suggest other networking sites will come online, and is therefore not too risky to suggest Twitter will be superceded.  Twitter will recede in popularity and use; but not for a good time yet. Twitter is here to stay for a while; growing stronger all the time.

How to create a self-hosted blog with pop

A blog for the network marketer is much more then a place you post your newest idea you found interesting . Todays network marketer must always have some advantage to each contact they have with a lead or would-be consumer. If your web site looks like everyone elses then you are just an additional boring or web site. You have to have certain attraction that make people paying attention. Your site needs to give some energy off just like you would if you were talking to a prospect.

In order to do this you need to constantly learn the up-to-the-minute trends. Right now the lastest trend is the Nerve Center Blog that has been introduced by Mike Dillard in Traffic Formula 2 (TF2). Unless you have purchased TF2 you would not know what Mike has been discussing. His team has done extensive research and has proved many of the items that they recommend for your blog work and fascinate more optins to your site. This is the kind of trends you must to stay on the leading edge of to keep your site novel and new.

I am going to list some of the items that have been suggested in TF2 for their “Nerve Center”.

First is to have a self-hosted blog. This is blog that is on a server that you own or are leasing. This is different than you using a blogging service such as Wordpress.com or Blogger. Additionally the server that you use needs to have the correct software to install the tools they recommend. The software that you need is fantastico. The service they recommend is Hostgator since it already has fantastico installed and it is a very steadfast and affordable hosting service.

after you have the hosting server you need to install the wordpress.org software. This will give you a wordpress blog that is absolutely easy to maintain for somebody that can use a ordinary editor. The power of Wordpress is in the tools that are offered for the framework. Three areas I want to talk about are Themes, Wigits and Plugins.

There are several themes that are on hand for free or for a trivial fee. The recommended free theme is Atahualpa and purchased them is Thesis or WooThemes. Two or three column. One larger main column and then either one column to the right that is about 1/3 to entire width of the page or two minor columns that collectively are 1/3 of the right side of the page.

There are lots of built in wigits that are pretty painless to comprehend but there is one that is extra impressive and that is the text box. The text box can take HTML code that can be almost anything you could imagine. A text box can hold the HTML code for an Optin box that would typically be on your capture page. This can now be right on your blog. Additionally this box can be used to have any icon and link to your other sites like social media sites of FaceBook, Youtube, Twitter or LinkedIn. You can have the icon for that site displayed and after clicked they would be taken your social site.

Plugins could be talked about for hours. For the most part they are straightforward to install. The plugins I suggest are: Tweetmeme, Sociable, DISQUS, All in one SEO Pack, WP Google Analytics, Google XML Site map and Askismet. For the most part these plugs have clear documentation and are uncomplicated to install. Just contact me for more information or if you have questions.

Now  there are a few further items that you need on your blog. Most of this is content that you need to write and some it of it is a little technical but somewhat easy to do.

You need to have an optin form that your prospects can fill out. This information will go into your autoresponder and will commence to market to your prospect. A high-quality series of auto responder emails will make possible your to take home some affiliate commissions while the prospect gets to know you. That subject is for another article. Lets move on.

Your blog should have a picture or video of you where the prospect can get to know you better and see what kind of person that you are. This is all about attraction marketing so you need your picture to reflect the image you want to project, so keep that in mind.

Your blog needs to have a section that has your story of how you got to where you are. This story needs one that people can connect to but at the same time has some snap to it so that you are bringing in the kind of people you want in your business. extra pages with testimonials and other information about you will allow people to get to know you better. All of this will build your image and relationship with your prospect.

The more the over all look of the blog represents that breed of people you are looking for the more optins of the right kind of people you will get. Be uniform with posting content to your blog and you will have a better following. Over time there will be oodles of content and you will get more and more optins.

Please let me know what you think about this content. I welcome all comments. I hope that it helps you to be able to attain what you want out of this business.

Backlinks: Why Your Web Pages Need Them

help with backlinks

Backlinks often referred to as ‘inbound links’ are key to the visibility of your web pages in the search engines and attracting visitor traffic. When thinking about backlinks there are three elements you need to consider, the source from which the backlinks come from, the anchor text of the backlinks and the content of the page to which the backlinks sends the visitor to.

The amount of backlinks

The majority of search engines count the volume of backlinks to a web page when deciding where this page should appear in the search results.

The origin of the backlinks

Backlinks are like votes – the higher the number of votes (backlinks) the more relevant and popular the page is viewed by the search engine. But ‘votes’ passed via backlinks from trusted or authoritative pages to a page have greater influence over the search engines view of this page than backlinks originating from pages with less ‘trust’ or authority. Government (.gov) and educational (.edu) sites are prime examples of sites that are authoritative and trustworthy.

Google Page Rank

Google has the concept of ‘page rank’, this is the value indicator it attaches to a page it considers to have accumulated authority over time from backlinks pointing towards it.

The ‘anchor text’

When you see a backlink on a web page it normally has a label a word or text related to the content at the page to which this backlink is pointing, what this ‘anchor text’ says has influence upon the value the search engines give to the link. Relevance is the guiding principle for every search engine mechanisms and it follows if the information on the page is about ‘drying chillis” then it is from a search engine’s point of view, more valuable for the backlink’s anchor text to this page to contain the word ‘chilli’ as opposed to a related term such as ‘drying spices’.

Common problems

It’s not rare for novices to confuse the quantity with the quality of backlinks and become quickly perplexed by their lack of progress For example if most of your backlinks to your ‘parenting’ page come from pages not related to ‘parenting’ then whilst you have backlinks they will almost always bring you the wrong visitors.

How to build backlinks

So here is my tried and tested guidance for getting backlinks to your pages, good visibility in the search engine results pages and the right type of traffic to your web pages.

  1. Discovering the right keywords from the start is essential.
  2. I always set out to put together a keyword cloud.
  3. You should always begin by identifying a key word or phrase which has a a constant and high amount of traffic.
  4. To discover how much visitor traffic is being generated by searches for my primary keyword I use the Google keyword analyzer tool.
  5. I analyse words and search phrases relative to my primary phrase and build my ‘cloud’.
  6. From this cloud I create a selection of content containing articles, videos and blog posts each with backlinks embedded with the related anchor text and then use a suite of content distribution systems to send my content to a group of directories.
  7. When I write my content I do so with the searcher in mind so as each piece of content attracts backlinks to itself as well as sends backlinks to my target pages.

Blogging is now been used by many webmasters, why? Blogging is great for adding new content to your domain and increasing the number of relevant key terms your site can be found with. On top of this it also gives you an avenue to provide readers with something to come back for, providing unique quality content will drive links to your pages and increase your online visibility.

There are ways in which we can super optimise our blogs to ensure they are pulling in as much search engine traffic as possible. You see when most people think about search engine optimisation, they think about ranking for the high traffic terms, this is sort of true but in order to have a high traffic website you need to consider the many long tail terms searchers might be using. What you have to be mindful of is that the high search terms everybody chase’s only accounts for 15% of searches on Google, that means there is a whole load of traffic to go at.

So we have a blog, were going to write some interesting posts to engage readers and hopefully draw them back to the site, however we need to mindful of the keywords they might use to find the post, a bit of keyword research goes a long way here.

So a natural place to start would be the Google keyword tool, enter some search terms connected with your post content, your not looking for the competitive terms here you are looking for the low traffic long tail terms these are going to be the easiest to target from an SEO perspective.

Make a list of all the long tail or low competition keywords that relate to your new post. Make sure you have a window open in front of you with the target keywords in. The idea here is to use as many of your low competition terms as possible, using the most relevant as the post title and in the url slug.

The best way to incorporate all the keywords you want to target naturally is to write long posts, this will give you more space and opportunity to use the many variations.

Now you have to think realistically about the traffic, each post should drive anywhere between 15 and 30 visits per month, yep this is low traffic but imagine if you optimised every post in this way. If you had a blog with 1000 posts all optimised in this way that would be close to 30,000 visits a month just by simply optimising some of the posts. You cannot ignore this, it is too simple to implement and every blogger should be taking advantage of this form of traffic generation.

Darren Rowse

I loved blogging the moment I started blogging and just keep creating new blogs for profit. If you love to blog, there is no reason why it couldn’t be used as a revenue generator for you as it does for me.

Your blog readers have formed a bond with you which is the first step toward blogging success. Their trust is essential if you want help in making money. Using those blogging skills can be the first step towards increasing your bottom line.

Blogging is easy, blogging and earning good money, well it’s not as easy as some claim it to be.

It takes the big “C” – commitment.

I have worked with many blogger wannabees but they just were not commited and expected to be earning without little work. If you are not ready to invest the time it takes to make a blog successful with readers, there is no reason to think about monetizing it. But, if you are reading this, you are probably ready to take the next step.

Do A Little Guest Blogging

You have learned (or are learning) the ins and outs of blogging through your own blog. Take what you know and farm yourself out as a guest blogger. Guest blogging is great, but be careful that you don’t hinder your own profits in the process.

Offer to guest blog for business associates. The attention that you get can drive traffic to your site and your ads that you have there. Also, you can get great quality backlinks in the process that can further increase your ranking, traffic and revenue.

The reason to be careful concerns doing too much guest blogging. Keep guest blogging to one blog at a time so that you still have time for your own blog. Trust me over-extending yourself just leads to stress that you don’t need and your business may suffer because of it.

Find Some Blogging Jobs

There are always busy bloggers looking for others to help them out. For the super bloggers, it is hard to manage dozens of blogs on a daily or even a weekly basis. They will need help and that means you.

You can apply for blogging jobs in all areas. This gives you a chance to stretch your blogging muscles and learn about a new topic. And, you will be getting paid for your efforts. Don’t forget to highlight your blog in your bio.

How do you find blogging jobs? Go to your search engine and type in “blogging jobs.” Go through the search results to find a variety of places that need people to help with their blogs. A couple of places to start:

• Problogger.com
• BloggerJobs.biz
• Jobster.com

Finding quality blogging jobs can get you going when your blog is new.

There is more than one way to monetize your blog. If you love to write and share, you can begin by using your talent to help other bloggers in need and other business associates.
