Unless you’re completely new to the blogging scene, you’ve probably heard two things.

  1. Content is king
  2. You must offer your visitors real value if you want to keep them visiting your blog

These things are necessary to make money, but they’re not enough in themselves. A less talked about secret of earning big blog income is that great content and providing value won’t get you there by themselves. That may seem to contradict what you’ve heard, but it doesn’t. Please let me explain.

When top blogs make money, they surely have great content that provides value to their readers, but they have several more characteristics. The most important of these is that they have traffic. In other words, thousands of people a day read their blogs.

Great content is crucial. Providing real value is crucial. But if no one finds your blog, you’re not going to make money. There are tens of millions of blogs out there. If your blog covers a topic that lots of people are interested in, there are likely to be tens, even hundreds of competing blogs. Getting enough visitors to your blog is challenging but doable.

If you’ve got a lot of loyal readers, you’re almost there. One major step remains. Getting your blog to generate money (known as monetizing your blog) is the next big challenge. Unfortunately, even if you get tons of visitors, you’re not guaranteed to make any money. If you want to earn significant blog income, you need a good monetization plan.

So as you can see, delivering value to your readers isn’t nearly enough. Two more things are necessary. One is getting visitors, lots of visitors to your blog. The other is getting them to spend money. You’ll need to master both of these if you really want to profit from your blogging.

Here are 9 tips to help you get repeat web site traffic. It may be easy to get new traffic but new traffic doesn’t usually buy anything, that can take up to 7 visits so repeat traffic can be vital to your success.

1. Frequently update your web pages. Sites that are never updated or maintained are dropped by some search engines. You can even put a date counter on the page to show when it was last updated.

2. Over deliver value on your website. For affiliates and partners you can place links to their sites and products and ask them to do the same for you. Don’t hesitate to advertise their products also, if they are not in competion with your own product.

3. You can allow customers to ‘opt in’ to get discounts and special offers. Invite your visitors to a free monthly newsletter with an opt-in form.

4. Adding a link to book mark your site or add to favorites is always a good idea.

5. Add a link ‘Recommend this site to a Friend’ so that the visitor can email your website link, with a prewritten title, “Thought you might be interested in this”, just by clicking on it.

6. Maintain your theme or brand throughout your site so your customers always know they’re on your website. Always provide a ‘Contact Us’ link on your pages and use consistent colors and logos throughout your site.

7. Always have a ‘Policies’ page which clearly states your mission and principles in regards to customers. Also post your privacy policy as well so that clients know they are secure when they visit your site.

8. Post a FAQ page with common concerns clarified, this will alieve most doubts and objections. This will resolve most doubts with a prospect or customers initial visit to your site.

8. Ensure that each page on your website has appropriate titles and keywords so that your customer can find their way back to your site if they lose the book mark.

9. Never spam a client, who has opted in for newsletters, with unsolicited emails. If someone wants to ‘opt out’ of your list, always honor their request in a timely manner. They may still come back if they like your products. But they will certainly not come back if you continue to flood their email box with emails they no longer wish to receive.

If you’ve dipped so much as a toe into today’s marketing world, you’ve heard about blogs. Actually, if you’ve been on the internet at all lately, you’ve probably seen that blogs are a pretty commonplace occurrence. What you might not know is how easy and effective it is to advertise on the “blogosphere.”

What is this thing called a “blog?” What is it for? When was it born? How can you make it work for you in today’s competitive marketplace, especially when you have very little money to spend on your marketing?

The term “weblog” was coined in 1997 by Jorn Barger, editor of RobotWisdom.com, one of the oldest blogs out there. By July 2006, statistics show that there were 12 million bloggers in the US alone (we’d venture to say there are many times that amount now), and that more than 39% of the US population reads blogs. From the perspective of someone who wants to advertise on blogs, this is a good sign. Statistics also show that by February of 2009 there were 1.5 billion Internet users worldwide.

At about 25% of the world’s population, that is nothing to shake a stick at. With only 80% of the world’s population being literate, you can figure that almost half of the world’s literate population is online. And more and more folks across the globe who use the Internet are choosing to read blogs. What does that mean for you, oh Person Who Wants to Advertise Their Business? It means that you can use this medium to promote your business.

For a minimal cost you can reach millions of people with your brand and your website. And why does it mean that? For as many bloggers as there are, there are that many blog readers.

Many people choose not to put their every thought and opinion onto a website, but that doesn’t mean that they don’t want to read the thoughts and opinions of the people who do. The cool thing about that is that many bloggers are quite influential. When it comes to reviewing products and companies, they do not hold anything back. So how do you get into their sites to advertise your company? One way is to find blogs that fit your product’s image and go through the rigmarole of emailing them individually.

You’d need to offer them free product, send it to them and wait for them to write about you and link to your website. Or, in an easier and possibly more effective move, you can sign up with a service that makes your ads available to bloggers. Because of today’s economic climate, more and more bloggers are trying to make a profit from their blog.

Whether it’s to offset the cost of their domain name and website, or whether they are trying to put food on the table, more and more quality bloggers are putting advertising on their websites. The service they use can be the same service you use to take advantage of some prime internet real estate and reach an audience who may not be looking for your product otherwise.

Blog readers aren’t stupid, but they are partial to the blogs they read the most. And chances are, if the blog is established and has a decent readership, those readers are going to be interested in the ads posted on their favorite blogger’s website. Why not have that ad inventory occupied by you?

I have found blogging to be a great way to make money online. It’s a great way to start marketing online,  even if you’re a real newbie. There are several business models for those that want to get started in a hurry.

I will discuss just three of the more popular methods.

The first method is paid blogging. Using this method, you create your blog and add a few good articles to it. Then you signup with paid blogging networks like Pay Per Post or Review Me and see what “opportunities” are available. These networks are filled with advertisers looking for blogger who can help them spread the word, and they are willing to pay. Accept the opportunity, write about it on your blog, and you get paid.

The second method is WordPress and AdSense and it requires a little more technical know-how. You need to build a WordPress blog on a specific niche topic, and start writing some good content on it. Once you’re done, leave comments on other blogs to get some important one-way links. The objective is to get more traffic who will click on your AdSense ads and make you money.

The third and most sophisticated method is affiliate marketing with WordPress blogs. Again, you set-up a good WordPress blog but with this model the amount of content you publish is not as important as the “selling quality” of the content. Each post you write must pre-sell the web visitor and convince him to click on your affiliate links. When the visitor makes a purchase online after that, you get credited for the sale and earn commissions.

Ultimately, which model you choose depends on how much time and resources you can dedicate to creating and managing your blogs. Choose a model that requires little investment at first, althoughugh this may mean more of your time. When you get the hang of it, you can venture into other blogging models as well.
