Blogging is one way that people make their presence known on the Internet. It began as simply an online journal but is not a way to make money doing what you love. Bloggers are always on the lookout for ways to do that. Have you thought about affiliate programs?

Affiliate programs are taking off like wildfire. Someone has a product or service they are selling and they give you a chance to be a part of their good fortune by advertising for them. The more money that they make, the more money you make as well.

This type of program is great for a blog. Affiliate programs are everywhere now. They range from pay-per-click to pay-per-lead to pay-per-sale. It all depends on what you want to explore. With some of the bigger programs, you are almost guaranteed a profit on the brand alone.

Finding a Suitable Affiliate Program

All affiliate programs are not created equal. First, choose one that is suitable for the purpose of your blog. You wouldn’t advertise for hair care products if you blog is about gardening. The program product has to fit your needs.

Check out the commission structure. If you are going to promote this program, you want it to be worth your while. Many have a structure where you can earn money for your leads and also for referrals. Can you move up? A multi-level program gives you incentive to promote harder for the monetary gains.

Do you believe in the product? Remember, you are accountable to your readers on your blog. Promoting a product simply for the money would betray them and you would lose your audience.

Try the products you are promoting. Ask for feedback on the program if you have to. You will be more passionate about the product if you like it.

Go for the top. Why not Amazon or eBay? They offer popular affiliate programs that can help monetize your blog. Well established programs usually have more resources for the affiliates to use to increase their commissions.

Affiliate Directories

This is another way to get going with affiliate programs. This is like a marketplace where merchants can list their affiliate opportunities. You can apply for their programs. Here, though, you may be rejected if your blog doesn’t meet certain criteria such as length of time on the Internet.

Affiliate programs are an easy way to get started in the area of monetizing your blog. You can sign up for many even if your blog is new and get going in minutes.

How to Make More Money Blogging

Customize Your WordPress Dashboard

I have found blogging to be a great way to make money online. It’s a great way to start marketing online,  even if you’re a real newbie. There are several business models for those that want to get started in a hurry.

I will discuss just three of the more popular methods.

The first method is paid blogging. Using this method, you create your blog and add a few good articles to it. Then you signup with paid blogging networks like Pay Per Post or Review Me and see what “opportunities” are available. These networks are filled with advertisers looking for blogger who can help them spread the word, and they are willing to pay. Accept the opportunity, write about it on your blog, and you get paid.

The second method is WordPress and AdSense and it requires a little more technical know-how. You need to build a WordPress blog on a specific niche topic, and start writing some good content on it. Once you’re done, leave comments on other blogs to get some important one-way links. The objective is to get more traffic who will click on your AdSense ads and make you money.

The third and most sophisticated method is affiliate marketing with WordPress blogs. Again, you set-up a good WordPress blog but with this model the amount of content you publish is not as important as the “selling quality” of the content. Each post you write must pre-sell the web visitor and convince him to click on your affiliate links. When the visitor makes a purchase online after that, you get credited for the sale and earn commissions.

Ultimately, which model you choose depends on how much time and resources you can dedicate to creating and managing your blogs. Choose a model that requires little investment at first, althoughugh this may mean more of your time. When you get the hang of it, you can venture into other blogging models as well.

How To SEO Optimize Your Blog Posts

Daily Traffic
Image by Burning Image via Flickr

Many bloggers fail to realize how important search engine traffic can be because they rely solely on Social Media traffic. This is one of the many reasons bloggers fail to make extra money with their blog.

Making your blog post search engine friendly is very easy and I’ll show you how to do it. All it takes is just three simple steps. These three steps can increase browsers to your site and be the difference between a blog that creates the owner little if any income or one that becomes a great source of additional income.

Follow the advice below to search engine optimize every article you write and start reaping the rewards of free targeted Internet users.

To begin with, you should make certain your blog post url’s are search engine compatible. With a blog platform like BlogSpot, this is already done. WordPress blogs need a little work. If you use the WordPress blogging platform, then you’ll need to set your permalinks so that the code produces optimized url’s when you make a post.

The way you get this done in WordPress is find the the Permalinks tab, and click the radio button along side the Custom field. Then you’ll put a percentage sign followed by the words Postname. {Immediately after the words postname, Now} add another percent symbol. You’ve now ensured that all your post will have optimized urls.

Next, your main keyword should be in the Title of the blog. If you’re blogging about ways to earn extra cash, then you’ll want these keywords in your Blog’s title. If your blog is about Dogs, then don’t use something unrelated like your name in the title unless you also have the word Dog in there also. By using the keywords in the Title, then you’ll rank higher than if you name the blog something that does not tell the search engine what your blogs about.

The next important step is to use the keywords in your Post’s title. If you want blog readers to visit your post about online auctions to to make a living online, then your keywords need to be in your post title. Not irrelevant keywords like How I Make Money With Auctions. The search engines won’t know what your post is about and you can forget about getting free traffic. If you’re blog is monetized with Adsense, this tip will increase traffic while showing the highest paying ads for an increase in the pay per click you receive.

Implementing these 3 simple tips will go a long ways in letting the Search Engines determine what your post and blog are about. By taking a little extra time and making it easy for the search engines to determine what your post and blog are about, they’ll rank you higher in the Search Engine ranking pages.

Now to fully take advantage of all this optimizing, you’ll need to build links to each post. Ahh, but link building is a whole nother article that has to be saved for later. Get used to optimizing your blog and blog post before tackling the chore of building links to your site.
